Tube extrusion
Consulting | Development
Our experts preside over a profound knowledge of plastics technology. Thanks to our excellent know-how in the development and manufacture of plastic parts, we focus on appropriate design for plastic components and their cost-effective production right from the start. We provide you with expert, individual and personal support across every phase of your project.
Extrusion of tubing
The extrusion of tubing from all common thermoplastics is done in specialised facilities. High-performance materials such as PEEK, PSU, PPSU or FEP also belong to it. We have dimensions availlable. Material properties and tolerances are adapted to customer requirements. Are particularly kink-resistant tubes requested, or would you like to transport different media in the same tube but separated from each other: KonMed knows the tricks. Extrusion: A method with countless possibilities.
Mono volume tubing
The application diverse dimensions and surface qualities can be extruded. Whether on rolls or cut in defined lengths, it is made according your needs. We process thermoplastic materials is manufactured with additives, which enable individual coloring or a radiopaque property, for example. Supreme discipline is processing high-performance materials such as peek, which can also be produced cost-effectively in small quantities. The smallest of diameters are feasible, and this with wall thicknesses thinner than a hair.
Multilumen tubing
Multiple lumens in the same tube, for multiple working channels in your instrument. Be it for the guidewire, the transport of media, electrical signals or optics etc., we kill several birds with one stone here. We support you in designing the ideal profile to guarantee the best possible application.
Multilayer tubing | Coextrusion
The simultaneous processing of several extrusion materials in one tool makes it possible to produce tubing that combine different properties at the same time: biocompatibility and drug compatibility, adhesiveness or slippage. Lines of different colours can be integrated, or even contrast lines that are visible or invisible in an X-ray image.
Armoured tubing
What if the internal pressure becomes too great, or a tube is bended such, that it threatens to buckle? Tubes with wire reinforcements come into their own here. They also enable the absorption of axial and torsional forces. The reinforcing wires can be introduced as a spiral (coiled) or webbing (braid). The main reinforcing wires used are stainless steel or plastic fibres (PEEK, PA). In addition, MRI-compatible solutions are also feasible.
Axially running wires are over extruded, such as guide wires. This keeps the tubing’s shape and allows a signal to be transmitted.
High pressure tubing with simultaneous flexibility
Tubes that have to withstand high internal pressure and at the same time remain flexible are also provided with braiding. One typical application here is the injection of contrast medium for diagnoses.
The standard dimensions for high pressure tubes are OD 3.65mm/ID 1.85 mm and the maximum working pressure is 84bar (1200psi). Additional variants are manufactured according to customer specifications.
Peek extrusion
Peek has excellent mechanical properties, good gliding behaviour and, with a melting point of 334°C, is resistant to high temperatures. It has excellent chemical resistance and can be sterilised with hot steam, is biocompatible and radiolucent. The high toughness and robustness allow for strong deformation without breaking. On request, peek tubing are made into the desired final shape.
